UNISON EU referendum consultation

The union’s National Executive Council (NEC) has agreed to launch a consultation of UNISON members about the European Union (EU) Referendum taking place on Thursday 23 June. All members are invited to take part in this consultation.

You will be sent an individual link to your personal electronic ballot by the end of the week starting 7 March, which must be completed by 31 March.

The consultation will help the NEC decide, following member feedback, whether to take a position on the EU Referendum, and if so which side to support: ‘Leave’ or ‘Remain’.

To help inform members, the union has produced an information booklet. This outlines the reasons why the union is consulting, but also discusses key questions such as:

  1. The EU social model;
  2. Economic prosperity;
  3. Public services;
  4. Equalities and human rights; and
  5. Migration, benefits and social cohesion.

It also explains the four key reforms negotiated by the UK Government and gives the union’s perspective on each of them.

The Trades Union Congress (TUC)  has also produced research on the impact the EU has had on employment rights in the UK.
