‘OUR NHS’ National Demo: Saturday 4 March

Get involved: free coach tickets available now!

Health Campaigns Together has called a national demonstration for Saturday 4th March in Central London. UNISON is supporting the march and the West Sussex branch has organised a free coach to take branch members and their friends and family to London and back.

Why are we marching?

Jo Cooke, UNISON West Sussex workplace rep, Branch Committee member and NHS supporter explains why it’s important to maximise attendance at this timely demo:

“The NHS is one of our country’s greatest assets yet it has been chronically underfunded for years. Our National Health Service is now at breaking point. The NHS will not survive if things continue as they are. Yet the government does nothing. Whether that is accidental or purposeful, it has to change.

The fact we live in a country where anyone is entitled to medical care regardless of their financial status is so important. You only have to compare the cost of medical care in the United States to see how essential it is that our NHS stays public and is fully-funded.

If healthcare is privatised, people will die. There is no doubt about this. I have several friends who would be dead if it weren’t for the NHS. There is no way they could have borne the cost of their treatment if healthcare was privatised. And I know the same is true for countless others. So let’s fight for OUR NHS. Let’s fight to save it. On March 4, let’s show the government and the world what it means to us.”

Coach pick-up points:

  • 08:30am Chichester (Avenue de Chartres lay-by)
  • 9:15am Worthing (Worthing Central Rail Station)

How to book your place:

Tickets for the coach are free and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. To book your seat, call the Branch Office on 01243 777636 or email us at office.unison@westsussex.gov.uk indicating your pick-up point.

Members may also book seats for friends and family. The coach has been booked with Woods Travel and on-board toilet facilities are provided. We would anticipate returning home to West Sussex by late afternoon/ tea-time.

The NHS is the single greatest achievement of working class people in Britain. We cannot allow it to be undermined and ultimately destroyed. We must march together, sending a clear message to the government: “The NHS will last as long as there are folk with the faith to fight for it.”
