Pension matters: could you join the Advisory Board?

As a result of the Public Services Pensions Act 2013, West Sussex County Council has established a Pension Advisory Board for the West Sussex Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).

The Pension Advisory Board consists of two LGPS member representatives (who can be either active, deferred or pensioner members), two employer representatives and a chairman.

A vacancy has arisen on the Board because Andy Elder, a UNISON member from Arun District Council, has stepped down. Chris Scanes, a UNISON member from our own West Sussex branch, is still on the Advisory Board and we need another UNISON member to join him.

Anyone can sit on the board as long as they have the capacity and time to carry out their duties as a representative. The commitment is about 12 days per year including training. If you need release from work to meet this commitment, the pension scheme would reimburse your employer for your time away from your workplace.

The Pension Board has a vital role in assisting with the good governance of the Pension Scheme, scrutinising key decisions and investment strategy, which will benefit all scheme members. More information on the Board and its members can be found here.
