UNISON South East nominates John Burgess for Gen Sec

UNISON’s South East Regional Council has voted to nominate John Burgess (picture above left with Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell) as its preferred candidate for General Secretary.

This was after the SE Region held its traditional hustings event in October and follows the West Sussex Branch Committee decision to also nominate John.

West Sussex Branch Secretary Dan Sartin spoke on behalf of John, supporting his campaign. Current General Secretary Dave Prentis attended and spoke in support of his own campaign. Other candidates Heather Wakefield and Hayley Garner spoke in support of theirs. Candidate Roger Bannister did not attend or send a representative.

Having heard from 4 of the 5 candidates or their representatives, the South East Region decided to give its nomination to John Burgess.
