WSCC/UNISON negotiations: could you join our team?

UNISON West Sussex relies on our members to inform and support our negotiations with employers. Our branch officers know about policy and employment law but we don’t know the minutiae or your day job or what needs changing – unless you tell us.

Therefore members in the workplace support our Branch Secretary Dan Sartin and Deputy Branch Secretary Karen Daubney in regular discussions with service directors. Members help ensure that we bring the right issues to the attention of the Directors and help ensure the right solutions are put in place.

UNISON is currently discussing with WSCC how it constitutes its different departmental negotiating forums – or Joint Consultative Committees (JCCs) as we call them.

Members responded brilliantly to our previous request to support UNISON in its JCCs, after 2 of our long-standing reps left WSCC to work in other parts of the country. But unfortunately, Susan Baker who joined us then as a qualified social worker in Adults’ Services is leaving WSCC to take up a new post outside the county.

Best of luck to Susan, but therefore, we would particularly like:

  • a qualified social worker from Adults’ Services to join us in our regular discussions with the Directors.

We are also looking for members from the following departments to get involved:

  • Fire & Rescue Green book staff;
  • Trading Standards;
  • Energy, Waste & Environment.

Could this be you? If is an opportunity to make a big difference to where you work, and the time commitment is not onerous. Expenses to attend meetings and the paid time to do so are given.

Please email office.unison@westsussex.gov.uk if you are interested to find out more and we will arrange a time to call you back.
