West Sussex schools – virtual meetings on pay: 16 & 18 May

UNISON’s industrial action ballot for council and school worker pay opens soon. UNISON members working in schools need a significant pay rise that builds on the employers offer.  The offer of £1,925 represents a further loss of pay for school staff at a time when rapid inflation has pushed prices up faster than wages. The recruitment and retention crisis of education staff experienced in many schools has led to increased workloads and challenges for support staff in education. School staff need a pay rise that reflects the value of the work they do and pay remains uncompetitive when compared to other employers.

UNISON’s NJC Committee has voted to recommend that members REJECT the offer as it falls short of our claim and represents a pay cut at all grades.

UNISON West Sussex Branch Officers will be running 2 virtual meetings with a presentation and a Q&A session for school staff. Branch Officers will discuss the ballot, what the employers offer in real terms means to you and the challenge of education funding.
