Women members

UNISON is deeply committed to promoting women’s equality. Over 70% of our membership are women.

Our branch remains committed to representing women’s issues in West Sussex. We have a Women’s officer to ensure that our commitment to women’s issues remains at the forefront of our campaigning, working locally as well as supporting national campaigns.

UNISON actively supports Women’s rights with the range of employment issues women face.

  • Advocating for maternity rights, protections against domestic violence, menopause friendly work policies and health issues that predominantly affect women.
  • Actively working to bridge the gender pay gap through negotiations and policy changes.
  • Proportionality within UNISON structures – ensuring fair representation of women at all levels of the union, with reserved seats and targeted training.
  • Annual Women’s Conference – a platform for discussing and addressing issues affecting women, ranging from health to media representation.

Our branch is committed to campaigning on these issues, and working to support the women in our branch. If you are passionate about women’s issues, or if you feel that you have been affected by an issue, please get in contact with us.
