The pay award for 2019-20 was complex and required changes to be made to the WSCC pay scale. UNISON has negotiated these with WSCC and you can see the impact from April 1st on your pay and grade below.
- Grade 1 has become a single spot point salary;
- Grades 2, 3, 4 and 5 have reduced to become two-point spinal column point ranges (from three);
- Unnecessary new spinal column points within grades 6, 7 and 8 are not being introduced, because these would make the steps to the top of the range unnecessarily elongated;
- There is a Grade 2/3 overlap, which means that experienced Grade 2 staff will be on the same pay point as new Grade 3 staff for one year.
These are overall a series of positive changes. However we believe that there are potential equal pay issues around grades 12 and 12A which we did not manage to resolve with the council. If you are on grade 12A, but spinal points 43 to 46, please contact the branch.
The branch has also worked hard to ensure West Sussex academies mirror this pay scale, and that the award is implemented where appropriate in outsourced private contractors.
