You’re invited to join in the commemoration of the Spanish Civil War, and its connection with Worthing.
The International Brigades Memorial Trust (IBMT) is organising the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Spanish Civil War in Worthing from 2-4 pm on Saturday 13 February at the Labour Hall, Lyndhurst Road, Worthing, BN11 2DE.
Speakers include:
Jim Jump, Secretary, (IBMT): talking about:
- the Worthing Brigaders: who they were and why we remember them; and
- the British battalion and the fight for the second republic.
Manuel Moreno, Treasurer, (IBMT) talking about:
The Beach House – how Worthing came to the aid of the Basque children.
- Entertainment from Worthing Socialist Singers;
- Anti-fascistas exhibition and merchandise;
- Refreshments provided.
The afternoon will conclude with an optional walk through Beach House Park to the Beach House, where Manuel Moreno will pay tribute to the ‘niños’ and those who welcomed them to Worthing.
This is a free event, but there will be a collection towards expenses. Any surplus will be donated to the IBMT.
