It’s important to remember what a union is.
The dictionary tells us a union is ‘a number of persons joined or associated together for some common purpose’.
If you join UNISON, you will be one of those 1.3million persons.
UNISON is a large trade union, but we cannot lose sight of the fact that as a voluntary association, we are only successful if enough of our members come forward to take responsibility for the success of our union.
UNISON is not an insurance policy; we are a voluntary association of working people with a common purpose. At the Branch level in West Sussex, over 5,000 members are supported and represented by over 100 members who have stepped up to take responsibility for the success of our union, either as Workplace Reps or as Branch Officers.
Don’t ask who the union is, or refer to us in the abstract – you are the union!
Could you support your union in these difficult times by getting involved?
Our Get Involved section sets out the many different ways you can make a difference. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss any of these opportunities further.
