Health & Safety at work should be a priority for everyone, for employer and employee alike. Every year, thousands of people suffer accidents and ill-health at work – many of which could be avoided.
Health and safety laws are not ‘red tape’ – they protect lives and the health of employees.
UNISON West Sussex has a network of Health & Safety representatives. These reps receive special training in health and safety law, and have rights to make periodic workplace inspections, investigate accidents and undertake risk assessments.
Where inspections are undertaken, usually jointly with a local manager, reports are produced along with recommendations for action which the employer cannot ignore.
