UNISON West Sussex branch committee agreed to donate £500 to various West Sussex foodbanks via the Trussell Trust charity.
Sophie Greaves, Area Manager for the trust said, “Thanks so much for your kind offer to donate £500 to the Trussell Trust food banks in West Sussex. This is amazing and I am sure they will all be incredibly grateful, especially during such challenging times.
“Funds that are donated to the Trussell Trust directly help us support the network of food banks to provide practical support to people in crisis and campaign for a UK without the need for food banks.
“Thanks to Unison West Sussex, the food banks can continue to provide much needed support to people in their communities.”
Branch secretary Dan Sartin said, “The committee was delighted to be able to support the trust in this way. However, it is a sad indictment of British society that food banks even have to exist, given the relative wealth of our country, but we wanted to recognise the invaluable work done by food banks and the volunteers who staff them, even during global pandemics.”
Any members in financial hardship themselves might wish to consider applying to UNISON’s Covid-19 Hardship Assistance Fund.
