West Sussex County Council intends to embark on a programme of changes across its ‘Provider Services’ division within Adults’ Services.
This is the department which provides a range of day and residential care services for adults across a number of different disabilities and special needs. Example establishments include The Pines in Worthing, Chestnuts day centre in Bognor, and Marjorie Cobby House in Selsey.
UNISON has engaged with Provider Services’ management and has also sent its views to the Cabinet member whose responsibility it will be to approve the proposals.
If the Cabinet member gives a green light, as we move into the Autumn there will be a phased approach to restructuring across a number of establishments. At that point, changes to terms and conditions of staff may be proposed and there would be a full consultation with staff, which involves UNISON as the recognised trade union.
The branch is calling for members in each establishment to elect their own UNISON rep now, ahead of this organisational change.
This will help the branch to understand member concerns in each establishment and to best defend your interests!
The form for rep nominations can be downloaded here. If you have any questions, you can contact Karen Daubney (rep for The Rowans Day Centre and Deputy Branch Secretary) on 01243 777636 or via office.unison@westsussex.gov.uk. Or see our ‘Become a Rep‘ webpage.
