October 14 strike suspended

The NJC Pay strike planned for Tuesday 14 October is currently suspended.

This is because the NJC employers have made a new offer to members.

As yet, UNISON has not officially released the details of that offer. But the NJC Committee (made up of elected lay reps who have the final decision in these matters) has agreed to put that offer to members in a consultative ballot to inform the way forward.

This does not mean that the strike is cancelled. But it is suspended pending consultation with members on the new offer. Please do not take industrial action on October 14.

Letters from General Secretary Dave Prentis to all members in WSCC and to members in West Sussex academies have been issued.

The West Sussex Branch would like to thank each member who took action on July 10 and those preparing to do so on October 18. Undoubtedly this action has brought the employers back to the table when they had consistently refused to negotiate. We await details of the new offer, and will be making arrangements to conduct a consultative ballot so Branch members can have their say on the new offer.

The Branch Staff Side Committee (which acts as the Branch’s Strike Committee) will meet next week to discuss arrangements for the consultative ballot.

The TUC demo on Saturday 18 October is still on – and the Branch has organised two coaches , picking up at Worthing, Chichester, Horsham and Crawley. Please book your seat if you have not done so yet. Details are available here.
