UNISON backs Jeremy Corbyn

For the second time in 12 months UNISON has chosen to nominate Jeremy Corbyn for Leader of the Labour Party.

This was after an extensive consultation within the union and ballot of members who choose to be members of the Affiliated Political Fund – which links members to the Labour Party as supporters.

58.1% of APF members who voted wanted UNISON to nominate Jeremy Corbyn and 41.9% voted for Owen Smith. Taking this into account, along with the fact that in all of UNISON’s 12 regions there was a majority for Jeremy Corbyn – and also discussions at regional and national level – the union’s Labour Link committee agreed that the nomination should be for Jeremy Corbyn.

Ballot papers will be issued for the leadership election shortly.
